Pathways Community Trust
Fundraising Trustee
This is not a typical trustee role.
Pathways Community Trust is building a new model of education for young people who are not well served by the current system, particularly those with additional needs, including disabilities and social, emotional and mental health needs.
Our work is grounded in a clear belief: every young person should be supported towards a meaningful adult future, and education should be designed with that end point in mind.
We are developing a place-based model (PathwaysPlaces), bringing together specialist education, alternative provision, and family support. Our ambition is not simply to create excellent settings, but to build a model with wider systemic impact.
Welcome from the Chair
Dear Candidate,

Thank you for your interest in this Trustee role. This is not a typical Trustee opportunity - and we are not building a typical charity.

At Pathways Community Trust, we are designing something bold and necessary: a trust of schools, alternative provision, outreach services, and employer partnerships that place inclusion, dignity, and ambition at the heart of education. We are developing a model of education and skills-based learning that creates clear pathways to employment.

Too many young people are being left behind - particularly those with SEND, SEMH needs, or at risk of exclusion or becoming NEET. We are determined to change that. This is an opportunity to be part of a founding group of Trustees committed to building a better system - one that works for everyone.

We have begun our work in Surrey, where we offer a specialist school and a skills-based alternative provision in a workplace setting. Our goal in the next ten years is to scale nationally, creating place-based ‘Pathways Places’ in areas of high unmet need, bringing together education, family support, and employer engagement to prepare young people for life, not just exams. Alongside this, we are building support for schools and local authorities to embed inclusive, trauma-informed approaches.

Delivering that growth plan will require a disciplined and credible approach to fundraising - particularly capital and major philanthropy - and we are therefore seeking trustees who can bring experience, judgement and networks in this area to help shape and strengthen our approach.

Our trustees help steer strategy, support and challenge the leadership team, and ensure we grow with integrity. In return, they gain close insight into a developing organisation and contribute to something with the potential to change life outcomes for young people who are too often overlooked. We recognise that becoming a Trustee is a commitment of time and energy, but for those who share our values, it is a meaningful way to contribute.

This is a role for those who value challenge, integrity, and the satisfaction of helping something important take root.
If this speaks to your values and experience, we would welcome the opportunity for a conversation.

Yours sincerely,
Steve Crocker
