Royal Star & Garter

Head of Fundraising

Care with courage

For more than a century, Royal Star & Garter has stood alongside veterans and their loved ones, providing exceptional care for those living with disability, dementia and complex health needs.

The 2025 merger with Care For Veterans brings together two highly respected organisations with shared values and a common ambition: to deliver even greater care, expertise and impact for the Armed Forces community.

What makes Royal Star & Garter different is its unwavering commitment to treating every veteran with dignity, compassion and respect. Its values are not simply words on a page—they underpin every interaction, every decision and every aspect of care. As the needs of the Armed Forces community continue to evolve, so too does the charity, investing in new services, new ways of reaching veterans and a long-term vision that will support generations to come.

This is a genuinely exciting time to join the organisation. They are investing in the future of supporter engagement, with ambitious plans to grow fundraising, reach new audiences and build lasting relationships with supporters. For an experienced fundraising leader, there is a real opportunity to help shape the next chapter of one of the UK's most respected veterans' charities.

Role Overview

This is a rare opportunity to lead fundraising for one of the UK's most respected military charities at a pivotal moment in its development.

Reporting to the Director of Supporter Engagement, the Head of Fundraising will lead a talented team spanning Individual Giving, Legacies, Partnerships, Corporate Fundraising and Events. The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on delivery, ensuring fundraising activity is innovative, insight-led and commercially focused.

While existing income streams provide a strong foundation, the organisation is looking to accelerate supporter acquisition, strengthen donor journeys and maximise lifetime value through smarter use of data, digital channels and audience insight.

Success in this role will come from balancing strategic thinking with operational excellence—building high-performing teams, delivering ambitious income targets and creating compelling supporter experiences that inspire long-term loyalty.

This is a role for someone who enjoys building momentum, spotting opportunities and helping a fundraising function evolve into its next chapter.

Who are we searching for?

We're looking for an experienced fundraising leader who combines commercial thinking with genuine purpose.

You'll have a strong track record of leading successful fundraising programmes, delivering significant income growth and developing high-performing teams. You'll understand how modern fundraising works—using data, digital channels, supporter insight and compelling storytelling to attract, retain and grow donor relationships.

Just as importantly, you'll be an inspiring people leader. You'll enjoy coaching others, bringing teams together around shared goals and creating a culture where innovation and collaboration flourish.

We're particularly interested in speaking with candidates who have experience across supporter acquisition, multi-channel fundraising and performance-led fundraising management. Experience of working with CRM systems, analysing fundraising performance and using evidence to inform decision making will be key.

You do not need a military background to succeed in this role. What matters is an appreciation of the contribution made by veterans and a genuine commitment to ensuring they, and their families, receive the care and support they deserve.

If you're excited by the opportunity to shape the future of fundraising for a highly respected national charity—and to lead a talented team with the ambition to grow income and impact—we'd love to hear from you.
